Easy Protein Shakes

Want to start drinking more juice but also want to keep your protein count up?

Pick out a pre-made juice or smoothie.

I recently underwent surgery to remove my wisdom teeth, which required a week of soft or liquid foods. Knowing that I would not want to spend too much money on smoothies, I went to the store and bought some Naked smoothies from the store (you could do this with any pre-made juices or smoothies though).

Buy some protein powder.

I wanted one that was gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free, a tall order for protein powders. Because I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), I try to find food solutions that support my hormones. My dietician said to stay away from gluten, dairy, and soy as much as possible and replace it with lots of greens and berries.

Vega protein powder fits the bill pretty well. I picked a tropical flavor because it pairs well with the green and beet smoothies that I enjoy drinking from Naked.

The hard part is knowing what kind of nutrition your body needs.

I know what my body needs because I tested my blood in the past and researched PCOS diets. I spoke with my fertility specialist, dietician, and personal trainer. I tend to run low on iron, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B12. But that's personal to my body.

Everyone's DNA will dictate what mix you need. Once you know what you're low on, you should find foods rich in those nutrients. Or in this case, pick out a juice/smoothie and protein powder that fits those needs.

Then comes the easy part: put the protein powder in the pre-made juice or smoothie and mix it up!

If you're like me, I mix mine super well because I don't like the graininess of most protein powders. A bender bottle with a metal mixing ball helps keep it mixed together.

And that's it! Easy and less expensive than going to Jamba Juice or Smoothie King every time you want a smoothie.
